The Judicial Commission of Inquiry into Allegations of State Capture, Corruption and Fraud in the Public Sector including Organs of State

This inquiry, known as the Zondo Commission, was appointed on 23 January 2018 by former president Jacob Zuma in terms of section 84(2)(f) of South Africa’s Constitution. Its purpose is to investigate allegations of state capture, corruption and fraud in the public sector, including organs of state.

The first round of hearings begins today in Johannesburg.

Point 1 of the terms of reference states that the commission will be “guided by the Public Protector’s State of Capture report, the Constitution, relevant legislation, policies and guidelines, and a High Court order issued on 14 December 2017.

Corruption Watch will be in attendance during the hearings. We will be publishing our thoughts and analyses on the proceedings, and presenting this material in a highly accessible format. It is designed particularly for community media who may not have the resources to attend, and who need easily digestible material for their own purposes.

The material will be available on request. If you would like to receive our content, please watch out for our password-protected page which will be available in the next day or two.
