Corruption Watch launches online communities of corruption fighters

Corruption Watch has partnered with Mxit, Indigo New Media and Concursive Corporation to provide South Africans with digital collaborative platforms to engage on issues of corruption.

The Mxit App (CorruptionWatchconnect) is now available on both feature and smart phones; while the Concursive mobile app will only be available on smart phones. To access the platform go to http://corruptionwatchconnected.org

“We think of ourselves and those who report corruption as a community of activists – the platforms provide tools for these activists to take the conversation further,” said Corruption Watch’s executive director David Lewis.

Corruption Fighters will have to register for the community in order to take advantage of its exciting features and capabilities. One is required to set up a profile and will be subsequently identified by their screen name in the community. You will also decide how much information to share with others.

Members of these communities will get constant updates about Corruption Watch’s initiatives and meet like-minded people who share similar experiences. Most importantly, they can share knowledge amongst themselves to hold their leaders accountable.

Lewis added: “We ultimately hope that government joins in the conversation with ordinary South Africans to help fight corruption.”

The organization has also embarked on advocacy advertising to raise awareness and mobilise the public against corruption.  The new Corruption Watch television advert features Corruption Watch staff making their national screen debut doing all the things they fight against every day.

By pitching in to act in the commercial, Corruption Watch staff not only helped to keep production costs down – always an important consideration for an NGO – but also showed that they are more than willing to walk the talk when it comes to fighting corruption.
