Corruption Watch will release the report Covid-19 TERS Corruption at Work on Monday 1 February 2021 at 08h00. The report puts a spotlight on how corruption manifested in the Covid-19 Temporary Employer / Employee Relief Scheme (TERS), as reported by whistle-blowers who approached the organisation. Since the introduction of TERS in March 2020, R37.1-billion from the Unemployment Insurance Fund (UIF) had been disbursed through the benefit by 31 July of that year.

The report also identifies among others, trends of corruption in the administration of TERS benefits, the industry sectors mostly implicated, and the players who facilitated or enabled corruption in the relief scheme.

Corruption Watch has investigated some of these cases brought forward by the public. Accordingly, the organisation makes recommendations in this report on how to deal with corruption relating to TERS and how to strengthen UIF operations.
