On 9 December, the UN-designated International Anti-Corruption Day (IACD), Corruption Watch will release Our Future is not for Sale, an important report focusing on youth perceptions and attitudes towards corruption in South Africa. By releasing the report on this day the organisation aims to shift the focus to this constituency in the country, and to highlight challenges they face as a result of corruption.
According to Stats SA’s mid-year estimates of 2019, the youth (aged 18–34) represent almost a third of South Africa’s population (17.84-million).
In mid-2020, Corruption Watch commissioned a study which sought to understand past and present behaviours and attitudes of young people, and to shed some light on what the future holds for this group, given the reality of corruption in the country and its impact on this demographic.
The findings presented in this report reflect a weighted and representative sample of 1 500 respondents between the ages of 18 and 35 years old.

- Gugu Nonjinge: senior advocacy officer at the Centre for the Study of Violence and Reconciliation
