Political Party Funding: the Role of Business, Legal Reforms and the Slow Pace of Change

6 November 2019 @ 2:00 pm 4:30 pm

Panel Discussion:

Undue influence by wealthy elites and looters on politicians is a danger to our society, as politicians are more accountable to those who can fill their pockets as opposed to the people who put them in power. Long before the VBS Bank Scandals, the Gupta enterprise, Bosasa slush funds and the CR17 campaign scandals, politicians and the business sector have colluded for selfish interests, at the expense of the public interest. Despite the corruption scandals that continue to rock the nation, we are yet to see regulated disclosure of political party funding.

Please join us as we host Business Leadership South Africa’s (BLSA) CEO, BUSI MAVUSO, who will speak on business being complicit in corruption and the role business should play in the fight against corruption AND political analyst, author and lecturer, RALPH MATHEGKA, who will speak on how party funding corruption is a systemic problem that extends beyond the “nine wasted years” under President Jacob Zuma.
