CORRUPTION WATCH UNPACKS STATE OF CURRENT YOUTH LEADERSHIP AT 18 JUNE DEBATE AND DIALOGUE
Youth Month 2016 has already sparked much conversation and reflection on the valiant efforts of the youth in 1976 to bring change, linking these historic events to contemporary youth challenges and accomplishments. Many of these events and discussions feature high profile people and politicians, who may be driven by their own agendas.
Corruption Watch, as part of its ongoing work with youth in South Africa, has a different approach to celebrating and reflecting on the youth. On 18 June, the organisation will host an event that is for the youth, by the youth. It provides a platform for ordinary young people to talk about the issues that affect them, and gives space for a critical debate about the state of youth leadership in the country.
The debate, entitled An [In Corruptible Youth, will address issues of corruption, participation and policy positions as played out in youth structures at this moment. Importantly, it will be an opportunity for young people to publicly voice their own opinions in an Oxford-style debate, followed by a broader dialogue with audience members.
