Corruption Watch will be conducting a series of engagements with mining-affected communities in Dannhauser, Newcastle, from 3 to 5 March 2020. These meetings will look into the challenges faced by these communities relating to the administration of mining royalties.

Through this consultative process, the organisation will be able to identify the main challenges facing the communities in seeking accountability and transparency over the administration of community royalties. The discussions with communities will also help to address the problems around the access to key information such as resolutions, financial documents and the mining application process.

These engagements stem from frustrated mining communities reaching out to Corruption Watch to empower them with necessary information to collectively hold tribal and government leaders accountable. Community members from Mtendeka, Umzinyathi, Klipspruit and Uitkomst will attend these meetings.

The engagements will be held as follows:

3 March – Mtendeka Community Sports Ground
4 March – Umzinyathi Community Sports Ground
5 March – Uitkomst Community Sports Ground Time: 10h00 to 13h00
